The Space- A Resource Guide
First, have you cleared your kitchen and food area of the items you don’t need? If you haven’t started there, I recommend going back and tackling that before any other tips in this Resource Guide.
A few common ones:
A juicer
The uni-tasking items that you forget about
Seasonal or holiday items you rarely use that can be stored elsewhere
Items that sit on the counter aren’t used daily (or at least 4x per week)
A sentimental item that is hard to get rid of, but isn’t used. Perhaps put that in a keep-sake box if you feel you need to hold onto it?
This is also the invitation to ensure the kitchen isn’t the dumping ground for everyone’s stuff all the time.
Do you need to create a dedicate space (and system) for:
The mail
Recycling
Backpacks, purses, grocery bags
Kids projects
What else?
Next, are the things you use often in easy reach? This also means they aren’t in the dishwasher every time you need them! If you use something daily or multiple times per day, you’ll need to have a system in place so it’s always hand-washed or you have multiple of them. It’s not excessive to have more than one of something if it makes food easier and more joyful for you.
Finally (for now), where can you get inspiration for making your kitchen more sacred and special for you? This can be decor, tools in the kitchen, plants, textiles, and colors.
A few ideas:
Other kitchens that have inspired you
Restaurants
Cookbook pictures
Pinterest (look up “dream kitchen” or “sacred cooking” or any keywords that speak to you and see what comes up!).
The thing with THE SPACE that I love is that the more you notice how it impacts you, the more you’ll optimize it. The invitation is here and it’s time to call in the space that inspires you!
